miraculous conception
Miraculous cures of infertility have a long tradition in both Judaism and Christianity; the most famous case in the Old Testament is the cure of Abraham's wife, Sarah, who gave birth to Isaac in an advanced age. Of the New Testament personae, both the Virgin Mary and St. John the Baptist have been born of old parents, with the conception of Jesus Christ being that much more miraculous as it occurred without a father.
