Zlata of Maglen
Zlata of Maglen (Злата Магленска) was an 18th century peasant girl. At one point the Turks insisted she renounce Christianity; when she refused, they tortured her, and finally hanged her upside down on a tree with a fire beneath her. After she suffocated, they cut her body in pieces. Today she is a patron of Bulgarians living abroad.
