The love interest is the character that the protagonist focuses their romantic efforts on. Traditionally of the opposite sex to the protagonist, more modern interpretations may have them of any gender or orientation.
The villain is the character who does the morally ambiguous activities within the story. The protagonist can be a villain if they go around killing people for no reason, or stealing from other people without a good reason.
