endive
Pale yellow, elongated vegetable, with bitter leaves. It belongs to the Asteraceae (daisy) family, and the chicory class. Introduced in Europe in the XIII century, it was used by the Egyptians and Romans due to its medicinal properties. It is cultivated in cool climates. In tropical climates it is produced in greenhouses.
