anamnesis
A reminiscence, memory, remembrance.
Etymology: Greek anamimneskein, to bring up from memory.
2. A. Preparatory case history information, the term "case history" to suggest continuation.
2. B. Entire case history as recalled by the patient, the use to connote a close on the case.
3. Philosophy: memory of past incarnations, a term to imply a memory loss.
4. Religion: remembrance of a sacrifice, a term to imply recurrence.
Linguistically, the term is actually dubious in senses 2a and 2b, as implying a memory or knowledge of future events; please compare CASE HISTORY, MEDICAL RECORD. Psychological reference to senses 3 and 4 would favor amnesia and chronic conditions.
