Matthias Lukas Ginter (born 19 January 1994) is a German footballer who plays as a centre back for SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga and the Germany national football team.

Ginter is a German youth international having represented his nation at U18, U19 and since 2013 the Germany U21. On 5 March 2014, he earned his first cap for the senior national team of his country after coming on as a late second half substitute in the 1–0 win over Chile in a friendly match, becoming the 900th player to be capped by the German national team. He was then named to Germany's 30-man provisional squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in May 2014.
