Known as Bali Bombings the first (series of bombings took place afterwards). It took place during the night, in Kuta, Bali. The attack killed 202 people, including 88 Australians, 38 Indonesian, 27 Britons, 7 American. 3 bombs were set - a backpack mounted device, carried by suicide bomber, a large car bomb (set near nightclubs) and smaller bomb which was placed near the United States Consulate,the third bomb causing minor damaged. However, a cassette was found near the site, a recording made by Osama Bin Laden, stating about US and Australia involvement on war in the East Timor and the Bali bombings were direct retaliation.

It was said that Bali was chosen because many American tourists are there.

At the same time, in Manado, Sulawesi, a bomb was also exploded in front of Philippines Consulate, fortunately the damage was minor and no one was injured.
