pempek
Pempek is a traditional fish cake originated from Palembang, Indonesia. The fish cake is made of fish and tapioca flour and served with dark colored, sweet, sour, and spicy vinegar sauce, yellow noodles, and fresh cucumber slices.
Pempek has a strong smell from the fish dumpling. The fish dumpling has to be steamed before it is deep fried. This fish cake has some variants, and one of them is called pempek kapal selam (literally means 'submarine pempek') in which the cook adds an egg.
