John in Apocalypse 10:11 tells us that Jesus says this "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd quits his life for his sheep" and later He mentions "I know my sheep and my sheep know me." Just as a shepherd quits or ignores his life for his sheep, so did Jesus on the Cross of Calvary.
