orthostatic hypotension

Also known as postural hypotension, is a sudden drop in a person's blood pressure when changing positions such as standing up or stretching. It is cause by pooling of blood in the lower extremities upon assuming a standing position.

hyporeflexia

A decrease in the deep tendon reflexes' response time which can be generalized or regional, as a result from central nervous system injury or as an effect of metabolic disease.

proprioception

The ability to sense or feel movement, position, location and spatial orientation of the body after arising from a certain stimuli, through the use of the brain's unconscious perception.

respiratory failure

Is a condition where there is breathing cessation due to an inadequate exchange of gas by the respiratory system as a result of unmaintained normal ranges of both arterial oxygen and carbon dioxide.

cranial nerves

Also known as cerebral nerves, are nerves of the brain and brainstem which allows the exchange of information between the brain and different regions such as the head and neck.

dysesthesia

An abnormal, distorted and unpleasant sensation of touch that may be accompanied with pain. It is caused by damage or injury to a region of an organ or tissue in the nervous system.

polyneuropathy

Multiple symmetrical nerve damage resulting in burning pain, weakness, numbness and pin-like sensation that usually starts at the hands and feet and may move to the arms and legs. It may be sudden or may develop in a gradual manner.

Gullain Barre Syndrome

Also known as Acute Polyneuritis, is an autoimmune disorder characterized by ascending, symmetrical paralysis and weakness caused by damage to the peripheral nervous system. Infection usually triggers this disease and can fatal once the respiratory muscles become affected.
