Video compression (M-JPEG and MPEG)

Both these standards use special hardware and software to store video directly on a hard drive. Video compression is done in various ratios (e.g., 10:1, 5:1). The higher the ratio, the more video can be stored per meg, and conversely the lower the compression, the higher the video quality. See CODEC.
