Robbed-bit signalling (RBS)

The T1 channel -associated signalling scheme that uses the least significant bit (bit 8) of each information channel byte for signalling every sixth frame. This is known as 7-5/6-bit coding rather than 8-bit coding. The signalling bit in each channel is associated only with the channel in which it is contained.
