Public data network (PDN)

(1) A communications common carrier network that provides data communications services over switched or nonswitched lines.
(2) A network operated by a government or private organisation to provide computer communications to the public, usually for a fee. With a PDN, a small organisation can create a WAN without incurring the equipment costs of long-distance circuits.
