Intentional fallacy
The intentional fallacy (identified by literary theorists Wimsatt and Beardsley) involves relating the meaning of a text to its author's intentions. Although these theorists regarded meaning as residing within the text, some other theorists not sharing their literalist standpoint have also dismissed the author's intentions in relation to meaning.
