High frequency subcarrier

An information channel added to a television signal where the finest brightness detail is normally transmitted. As the human visual system is least sensitive to the finest detail, it is unlikely to be bothered by interface from such a subcarrier. This technique was first applied to the NTSC colour subcarrier; most recently it has been proposed in Toshiba’s ATV system.
