Fibre distributed data interface (FDDI)

Standards for a 100 Mbps local area network, based upon fibre optic or wired media configured as dual counter rotating token rings. This configuration provides a high level of fault tolerance by creating multiple connexion paths between nodes.

Connections can be established even if a ring is broken.
