Scalar
(1) Pertaining to a single data item.
(2) A type of programme object that contains either string or numeric data. It provides the byte string it is mapped to with representation and operational characteristics. See also pointer.
(3) An arithmetic object, an enumerated object, or a pointer to an object.
(4) A quantity characterised by a single value. See also array, vector.
