Data independence
(1) The concept of separating the definitions of logical and physical data such that application programmes do not depend on where or how physical units of data are stored; the reduction of application programme modification in data storage structure and access strategy.
(2) In CICS, the ability to request data by a high-level data-management method without concern as to how the data is stored or retrieved.
