Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM)
(1) A communications method in which information is organised into small, fixed-length cells that recur without regular or predictable time relationships. ATM incorporates network switches and negotiated service connections.
(2) A broadband technology for transmitting data over LANs or WANs that is based on relaying cells of fixed size. ATM provides any-to-any connectivity and nodes can transmit simultaneously.
