守株待兔 Shoŭ zhū daì tù
This idiom means to "sit around waiting for opportunities" but the story behind it is quite entertaining. Once upon a time, a rabbit was running away from something or other and ran smack into a stump in front of a farmer, killing itself. The farmer thought this was some sort of regular occurrence and ended up letting his farm go to ruin while waiting for the next rabbit to come along.
