t-amyl methyl ether (TAME)
Chemical formula of C2H5C(CH3)2OCH3 and an atomic weight of 102. 18 amu. It is listed as a volatile organic compound that can form explosive vapor or air mixtures under certain conditions. TAME is being researched to replace MTBE as a cleaner fuel additive, to reduce the harmful effects to ground water system from leaking MTBE storage facilities as well as the exhaust. TAME is one of the by-products of purifying crude oil to petrol and it can cause moderate skin irritation as well as dizziness if inhaled.
