The connection is commonly formed with a centrifugal pump charging the main rig pumps to increase efficiency. Since it is the last tank in the surface mud system, the suction pit should contain the cleanest and best-conditioned mud on location. It is also the most representative of mud characteristics in the hole, except for temperature.
