special effects mode

A mode in which the user can create artistic results simply by adding special effects to still images and movies.

To select an effect, the user rotates the mode dial to EFFECTS and chooses the effect by rotating the command dial, as in scene mode. Special effects can then be selected from a list displayed in the monitor.

Silhouette, high key, and low key effects that were formerly available in scene mode will be removed from scene mode and reassigned to special effects mode. The miniature effect and color sketch options available in the retouch menu will be added to special effects mode but will also remain in the retouch menu.

While the options in the retouch menu can only be applied to still images, those in special effects mode can be applied to both still images and movies. In the case of still images, these effects can be used whether still images are framed in the viewfinder or the monitor.
