small nuclear RNA (snRNA)

Short RNA transcripts of 100-300 bp that associate with proteins to form small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particles (snRNPs) (q.v.); most snRNAs are components of the spliceosomes (q.v.) that excise introns from pre-mRNAs in RNA processing.
