Occurs native, alloyed with gold as electrum, as sulfide argentite, Ag2S , proustite, pyrargyrite, and horn silver, AgCl, or cerargyrite. Main source is argentiferous ores of lead, zinc, and copper where it is extracted as a byproduct. Bulk of production is used for coinage, electrical alloys, photographic chemicals, and the arts.
