sexual exploitation
The terms “exploitation of the prostitution of others” and “other forms of sexual exploitation” are not defined in the Council of Europe Convention, “which is therefore without prejudice to how States Parties deal with prostitution in domestic law” (paragraph 88, Explanatory Report). Similarly, no definition of “sexual exploitation” was agreed while the UN Trafficking Protocol (2000) was being prepared. However, the UN Secretary-General subsequently defined the term as, “Any actual or attempted abuse of a position of vulnerability, differential power, or trust, for sexual purposes, including, but not limited to, profiting monetarily, socially or politically from the sexual exploitation of another”.
