A handle that uniquely identifies a specific activity that occurs over a period of time devoted to that activity. The session identifier must be provided as an argument in actions regarding the session. Session identifiers are used by Internet and device-specific transmission protocols, communications protocols, security protocols, and directory protocols and by mail, editing, and user interface tools.
