Said of certain light-colored silicon- or aluminum-rich minerals present in the norm of igneous rocks; e.g., quartz, feldspar, felspathoid. Also, applied to rocks having one or more of these minerals as major components of the norm. Etymol: a mnemonic term derived from "s"ilicon + "al"uminum + "ic." Compare: femic; mafic; felsic.
