pedestal
The offset used to separate the active video from the blanking level. When a video system uses a pedestal, the black level is above the blanking level by a small amount. When a video system doesn’t use a pedestal, the black and blanking levels are the same. (M) NTSC uses a pedestal set at +7.5 IRE, (B, D, G, H, I) PAL does not.
