Two lungs are similar in size but can be distinguished anatomically based on their surface features. The right lung has three lobes, demarcated by the oblique and horizontal fissures, whereas the left lung has only two lobes, demarcated by the obliques fissures.
The hilum of the lung is situated on its medial aspect and repreesnts the site where structures, such as major vessels, esophagus, and ribs lie in proximity to the lungs.
