locomotive resistance

The combined resistance caused by the friction of the journal and the wheel tread. It can range from 12 to 20 lb (5.44 to 9.07 kg), but for practical purposes may be taken as 15 lb (6.8 kg), as the locomotive represents only a small portion of the total tractive effort.
