light-emitting diodes (LEDs)

Its light is produced by an electrical current passing through a semiconductive material, so it does not require a filament like an incandescent bulb. They have a long life span, are durable, more energy efficient than CFLs, or incandescent bulbs cool to the touch and, while they have traditionally been used as small indicator lights, multiple LEDs are increasingly being used for household lighting.
