hyperbole
Hyperbole is exaggerated language used for dramatic effect to emphasize a point. It is not meant to be understood literally. An example of hyperbole is Jesus saying "If your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out." It is generally understood that this hyperbole meant to emphasize the importance of not looking at temptations--it is not a command to actually remove one's eye.
