genre

Conventional definitions of genres tend to be based on the notion that they constitute particular conventions of form and content which are shared by the texts which are regarded as belonging to them. However, an individual text within a genre rarely if ever has all of the characteristic features of the genre and texts often exhibit the conventions of more than one genre.
