dog
According to the Boston Consulting Group portfolio analysis (BCG-matrix or growth/share-matrix), a dog refers to companies' business units with a low market share in a mature, slowly growing industry. Those contribute very little to the company's overall profit, which is why the matrix suggests that dogs are to be sold off.
