dark field image

A matrix of values—one for each pixel—used to compensate for nonradiation signals generated in the MV and kV image detectors. The dark field image is generated by acquiring many images without irradiating the image detector, and averaging the images together to form the matrix of correction values. During normal image acquistion the dark field image is subtracted from the raw image data before display.
