clutch
Any car with a manual transmission has a clutch. The clutch mechanically connects the transmission to the engine. A clutch is needed so that the transmission could be disengaged from the engine when shifting gears or when coming to a stop. Pressing the clutch pedal, disconnects the transmission from the engine. Releasing the pedal re-engages the transmission to the engine.
