claying bar
A rod or tool for lining a newly made coal shot hole with clay to seal up any breaks in the walls of the hole. The hole is filled with clay to about one-third of its length. The claying bar is driven in by hammer to the limit and rotated by a tommy bar in the eyelet at the outer end of the bar.
