cavitation
The formation of gas or water vapor-filled cavities in a liquid volume when the pressure is reduced (tension is increased) to a critical level. In water systems cavitation typically occurs at about 0. 08 MPa of water tension. In confined systems, cavitation can create discontinuity of water columns preventing the non-elastic transmission of pressure along the column across the cavitation.
