cash cow

According to the Boston Consulting Group portfolio analysis (BCG-matrix or growth/share-matrix), a cash cow refers to companies' business units with a high market share in a slowly growing industry. Such units usually outperform other business units in terms of cash generation and require little investment, which in fact would be wasted due to the stagnant nature of their markets.
