articular eminence
The articular surface is in front of the mandibular fossa, where the mandibular condyle is located when it transmits force during mastication. The eminence may be expressed as anything from a straight, angled, plane to vertical and horizontal surfaces that meet along an edge. The back side of the eminence is the front side of the fossa.
