The Miss America pageant is an annual beauty contest, taking place each September in Atlantic City, NJ, and broadcast on television. Beauty-contest champions from each state throughout the United States travel to Atlantic City to compete against each other for the “Miss America” title and accompanying prizes. The first official Miss America pageant took place in Atlantic City on September 7, 1921.
