Jonagold
As its name suggests, Jonagold is a cultivar of apple which is a blend of blush-crimson Jonathan and Golden Delicious apples. It was originally cultivated in 1953 in New York. Jonagold offers a unique honey-tart flavor, and crispy, juicy nearly yellow flesh. It debuted in 1968, a product of the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station. With a yellow-green base skin color and a red-orange blush, it is excellent both for eating fresh and for cooking. Due to their large sizes, Jonagold apples are now favored by commercial growers in many parts of the world. Jonagold is typically available October through July.
