Iran national football team represents Iran in international football competitions and is controlled by the Iran Football Federation. The national football team of Iran, known as Team Melli, ranks 1st in Asia and 43rd in the world according to the June 2014 FIFA World Rankings.

On 16 June 2014, and in the opening match of the tournament, Iran faced Nigeria, where the match was finished 0–0. The draw makes Iran's first point in their opening matches where they were defeated in all their previous first matches in the tournament.
