Diapirid
Diapirid (generic name glimepiride) is an antidiabetic drug, the first III generation sulphonylurea used for treating non-insulin-dependent diabetes melitus (NIDDM) with long duration of action. The glimepiride's mechanism of action in lowering blood glucose appears to be dependent on stimulating the release of insulin from functioning pancreatic beta cells, and increasing sensitivity of peripheral tissues on insulin.
