Created from two independent French and British colonies, the Republic of Cameroon is a central and western African nation with a population of 19.9 million (2010) and has the city of Yaounde as its capital. In addition to its high literacy rate, Cameroon's per capita income is one of the highest in sub-Saharan Africa, estimated at around US$2,300 in 2008.
