BitBLT (bit block transfer)

The transfer of blocks of screen data (rather than a byte at a time) from one place to another in memory. The microprocessor tells the graphic chip what block to move and where to put it. The graphics chip carries out this operation, freeing the microprocessor to work on the next operation.
