1,1,2-trichlorofluoroethane
C2Cl3F3 (CFC-113), a chlorofluorocarbon with a long atmospheric lifetime (~85 years) and the third highest abundance in the Earth's atmosphere (behind CFC-11 and CFC-12). It has been used as a working fluid and blowing agent. Like other stable CFCs, it can and will, however, rise above the troposphere and be photolyzed in the available UV radiation of the upper stratosphere, releasing atomic chlorine (Cl dot) which will ultimately catalytically destroy stratospheric ozone. The Montreal Protocol called for the phase out of CFC-113 by 2010.
