mandibular (transverse) torus
Shelf-like thickening of bone on the inside of the mandibular symphysis; superior and inferior transverse tori can be present but there can also only be one. The inferior transverse torus is a simian shelf if it is thin and projects so far to the rear that its lowest point is also its most posterior.
