dideoxy nucleotide
A modified nucleotide that has a 3'-H on the deoxyribose sugar rather than a 3'-OH. If a dideoxy nucleoside triphosphate (ddNTP) is used in a DNA synthesis reaction, the ddNTP can be incorporated into the growing chain. However, no further DNA synthesis can then occur because no phosphodiester bond can be formed with an incoming DNA precursor.
